Filling for Decleration of Domicile

 In order to be a bona fide resident of Florida you need to file a Declaration of Domicile in the county you reside in. In Sarasota the Clerk of the Court Office handles the gathering and processing of applications. The application is a sworn statement stating that you maintain a residence in the State of Florida.

Obtaining a Drivers License

 All new residents must obtain a Florida driver’s license within 30 days of accepting employment, entering a child into public school, registering to vote, or filing for homestead exemption.

Car Registration

 If you own a vehicle and it’s registered in another state you have to register that vehicle within 10 days of gaining employment or enrolling children in school. To register a vehicle, you will need to provide the county tax collector with a current driver’s license, proof of Florida auto insurance, a prior registration certificate and the car’s title
Other Services offered by the Tax Collector’s Office: tag and title services for cars, trucks, trailers, vessels, mobile homes, specialty tags and disability parking permits

School Registration

 Every school has an attendance area determined by the address you enroll your child under. Parents may go to their children’s designated school at any time to register their children. Locate a school

School Choice Program:

Sarasota County has a School Choice Program for parents wishing to enroll their child in a school outside their district. New students to the county may participate in school choice by completing a school choice application prior to attending that district school. Admittance to a school is based on the availability of a seat and it is not guaranteed that a child may attend the school they choose.
